Nicaragua Ministry of Energy to increase national electricity coverage to 90%

ENATREL, the national transmission company, announced plans to add 86,000 homes to the electricity grid, increasing coverage across Nicaragua to 90% of households, up from the current level of approximately 85%. According to Salvador Mansell, head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and CEO of ENATREL, under this year’s national electricity plan new transmission plants have already connected 623km of electricity networks across the country. “We are excited to see the tangible progress Nicaragua is making with expansion of electricity services to its people, and are please that Polaris continues to play a leading role in the generation of clean power for the country,” says Polaris Infrastructure Inc. CEO, Marc Muraghan.  “We are confident that the combination of existing operations and our significant drilling program currently underway at the San Jacinto Tizate geothermal plant, as well as early stage development efforts with respect to the Casita San Cristobal project, will ensure that Polaris will become a larger contributor to the Nicaragua electricity grid going forward.”
