Nicaragua sourcing up to 65% of energy from renewables

At certain hours of the day on January 11, 2015, as much as 65% of all electricity generated in Nicaragua came from clean energy. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, between 8:00 am and 11:00 am on January 11, wind produced 30%, geothermal 14.5%, biomass 10% and hydroelectric 10% of total power respectively.  Of the 14.5% geothermal productions, the San Jacinto Tizate geothermal plant owned and operated by Polaris, accounted for approximate 9%. By 2027, the government of Nicaragua aims to meet 91% of the country’s energy needs with renewables. Polaris Infrastructure is working closing with the government and utilities to achieve this goal.
